My life purpose is to become a physician committed to improving healthcare access for rural and underserved communities, shaped by my upbringing in a rural area with no physicians within a 30-mile radius. That lack of access frequently led to delayed care and preventable poor health outcomes, underscoring how geography alone can determine health outcomes in rural communities. This inspired my rural internship, where I sought to better understand and serve this population. As a current medical student from a lower socioeconomic background with five years of clinical experience, I have witnessed how systemic and financial barriers shape patient outcomes. These experiences have strengthened my long-term goal of not only practicing medicine but also contributing to research aimed at improving healthcare access and advancing health equity. In medical school, I will continue building strong clinical and academic foundations while pursuing opportunities to develop solutions for the communities I come from.
